Inland voyage
Route
Varies and depends on the cargo offer. Fixed routes and destinations cannot be booked. The boarding point is not fixed until shortly before the start of the voyage, while the disembarkation point is usually determined during the voyage. Passengers book a specific travel period. The ship often operates in the Hamburg – Braunschweig area, but other routes are also sailed, e.g. Rhine and tributaries, North German, Dutch, Belgian canals, Elbe and Danube to Hungary, but this is rather rare.

Comments
The guest apartment on board is rented out like a holiday flat, passengers take care of their own meals and drinks.
Passengers book a fixed period of travel of approx. 4-8 days.
In addition, a flexibility of +/- 3 days should be planned in order to be able to react flexibly to changes in the itinerary if necessary.
The ship frequently carries container shipments between Braunschweig and Hamburg. Then arriving by car, which can be easily parked in Braunschweig or en route, is a good option. However, routes are not selectable, they are only determined shortly before the start of the trip.
Bed linen and towels are available on board.

Shore leave is often possible in the ports of unloading and loading, depending on the requirements of the cargo

- Many thanks again for my latest cargo ship experience which was wonderful.
I enjoyed the trip on the Gerda, with Captain H. who ensured that I had my best experience to date. Also, a mention to the Chef, who made very tasty meals, also to all the crew, I can’t list all their names, unfortunately, however, all staff combined made my experience so enjoyable and I will definitely try to go on that route again to meet them again.

Back from Hamburg, I would like to give you my feedback.
It was a very interesting week I spent on board; captain Z. and the officers were all very open and friendly, so there really was a good atmosphere. I have always felt welcome to go here and there, to ask questions, and able to spend a lot of time on the bridge. As I told the captain, I felt I was 40 years younger as I spent hours on the bridge, just like when I was an officer on merchant ships...
