First of all, many thanks for the incredibly helpful advice and support before and during our cargo ship journey from Rotterdam to Ireland; we felt completely at ease throughout.
I made this journey with my daughter; we had booked both the owner’s cabin and the passenger cabin, so we were the only passengers on board.
The taxi transfer with Driving4U in Rotterdam went perfectly; we didn’t have to worry about a thing and were taken to the Immigration Office and then straight to the ship.
The ship’s crew (some of whom were from Eastern Europe and some from the Philippines) were respectful, polite and friendly, and it was easy to communicate with them in English. The food was plentiful and deliciously home-style; there was fresh salad as a side dish every day, and the chef was incredibly friendly too.
Every day brought new ‘surprises’ for us: we were able to watch the loading operations; we were woken at night by the engine starting; we anchored off Waterford; having a shower in choppy seas on the Celtic Sea is quite an experience (that’s when I realised what the handrail in the shower was for); and dolphins and gannets accompanied us on our journey.
We were able to visit Waterford and Dublin on our shore excursions; the weather was brilliant, making both trips absolutely fantastic.
My daughter and I were incredibly sad to have to leave the ship after just a week, as it had been such a wonderful time.
As soon as it fits in with our plans, we’ll book another cargo ship voyage. Thank you so very much for everything!
