A cargo ship voyage: Rotterdam–Dublin–Waterford–Rotterdam
I travelled from 3rd to 11th June 2026 aboard a container ship from Rotterdam to Rotterdam via Dublin and Waterford.
Right from my first exchanges with Internationale Frachtschiffreisen Pfeiffer, I could see just how professional this company was: prompt replies to my questions, accurate documentation, regular updates on the departure date, and efficient coordination with the taxi for boarding.
My stay on board was extremely comfortable in the owner’s cabin, which was spacious and well-equipped. Meals, taken with the officers, were prepared by an efficient and cheerful cook’ who was very helpful and served up varied, plentiful and healthy food.
I really enjoyed interacting with the Russian and Ukrainian officers, as well as with the Filipino seafarers who make up the ship’s crew. I was able to go up to the bridge as often and for as long as I wanted and was given plenty of explanations about the ship’s operations and the weather. I was always given a warm welcome, often with a cup of coffee, and I even had some friendly, personal conversations with some of the officers. I was also able to visit the engine room under the guidance of a very friendly ‘1st engineer’ and take a tour of the ship with the ‘1st officer’ – it was fascinating.
Exploring Dublin and Waterford was also a highlight, and the officers did everything they could to ensure I disembarked safely.
This voyage, my third on a cargo ship, was truly a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend and which, for my part, I intend to repeat.
