Hello Ms Pfeiffer,
I’m writing from Cayenne in French Guiana, where we arrived safely after 20 days, without any storms or big waves. Everything went well and it was a great experience – a nice change from always travelling by plane. The food prepared by the cook and the excellent service from the steward were both very good – of course, you can’t expect the huge buffets of the ‘Traumschiff’, but this naturally gave us a good insight into normal life on board. The crew, mostly from the Philippines, also gave us a warm welcome. I’d particularly like to mention the captain and his chief engineer, who were very open to our questions and with whom we certainly had the most conversations. It was also interesting that we were allowed to enter the bridge at any time, where we learnt some basic nautical knowledge. After the fantastic BBG party organised by the captain one Saturday – complete with the obligatory karaoke and dancing – we’d probably become a proper part of the whole crew by then.
Now I’m heading on to Suriname, then French Guiana and finally Venezuela, from where I’ll make my way via several Caribbean islands to the Dominican Republic – and from there back to Germany at the start of January.
Best regards and thanks again.
