I’d like to give you a quick update on my trip in May. It was a wonderful experience; for me, the days at sea in the sunshine were the highlight. The ship is kept in superb condition, thanks – according to the captain – to the boatswain and his crew. One Saturday, they hosed down and scrubbed the entire rear section – where the cabins and the bridge are located – from top to bottom. Inside, too, the ship was always spotless, and the Filipino chef kept conjuring up delicious meals.
The shore excursions were limited to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Cádiz, but, in my opinion at least, you shouldn’t book a trip like this for the sake of the ports of call. The sailing experience and the open sea are what really matter.
A handy tip for anyone thinking of going: from the Hamburg-Veddel Westseite S-Bahn station, there’s a bus (no. 856) that goes as far as Kamerunweg. From the bus stop, it’s perhaps a 500-metre walk to the terminal gate. Incidentally, they’re happy there if travellers bring their own high-visibility vest, though the very friendly security staff are also happy to lend one out.
